Sheep to Shawl
Sheep to Shawl is an opportunity to see how raw materials are transformed into a finished product in traditional needlework. Mary Duh of After All Farms will demonstrate sheep shearing, the first step in the process. Elinor Levy will be carding wool, which helps to prepare the wool for spinning by drawing out the fibers and ridding it of knots and tangles. Spinning will be performed by North Country Spinners: Jean Sattler, Karen Yula Forest, Mary McGuire and Gaye Lowe; and Alice Gillespie of the East Penn Fiber Guild. The spun yarn will then be knitted and crocheted into beautiful shawls by Susan Huxley (knit) and Bonny Peters (crocheted). The shawls will be finished that day and auctioned off with proceeds going to Greater Lehigh Valley Buy Fresh Buy Local.
